The first of these is with Duane Shave, aka Mr Chatty Cathy Jackson, Matriarch of the ISCWR, retired educator, Empress 2 and Entertainer of the Decade, and one of the first ever drag queens to perform publicly in Edmonton!

Multi-million stream NYC-based recording artist and interpreter of The Great American Songbook Richard Cortez makes his Yardbird Suite (and Canada) debut.
Cortez, known for his velvety baritone voice, performs timeless standards with a personal flare all the while honoring the material with a historians sensibility. In a swinging show comprised of well known songs performed by Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, and Tony Bennett as well as rare gems unearthed by Richard’s vast knowledge of this cherished repertoire - this is an appearance not to be missed!
Richard just wrapped a national tour promoting Mood Swings that included venues like Cafe Vivace, The Black Cat and Catalina Club where he headlined his own show as well as opened for 96 year old jazz legend Marilyn Maye. This year, the Day of Pink ECHO Tour travels across Canada, bringing together powerful storytellers, poets, activists, and community leaders to share the 2SLGBTQIA+ stories that once faced censorship—and still fight for space today.
From courtrooms to bookstores, family tables to federal law, queer and trans voices have always resisted silence. This tour honours that resistance, marking 25 years since two defining moments in Canadian queer history:
The Supreme Court case Little Sisters Bookstore v. Canada
The passing of the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act
But this tour is not just about the past—it’s about the stories still echoing now. Stories that shape who we are and where we go next.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The ECHO Tour is an evening of poetry, conversation, reflection, and truth-telling.
Our speakers will share stories from history and lived experience—stories that would have been censored 25 years ago, and in many places, still are.
This is not just a show. It’s a call to listen.

Learn about the people, places, and moments that helped shape our collective queer history — at least in the city core!
Learn about the history of Edmonton Pride from its earliest days right up and through the pandemic. With special reminiscences from some of the key players in Edmonton’s past, this book is a great introduction to the resilience and strength of our 2SLGBTQ+ community.
The launch event includes a panel of the team members who helped write this book, talking about their experiences with the project and with the spaces included in the text.
