Founded in 1977, NeWest Press is one of Canada’s first independent literary publishing houses. NeWest publishes literary fiction, literary nonfiction, poetry, and drama, as well as a line of mystery novels, with a particular interest in books by Western Canadian authors. Its Nunatak imprint is the longest-running first-fiction series in Canada.

Cruising the Downtown: Book Launch

Join the team of the Edmonton Queer History Project as they launch their first book, based in part on their popular Downtown Walking Map! Learn about the people, places, and moments that helped shape our collective queer history — at least in the city core!

Learn about the history of Edmonton Pride from its earliest days right up and through the pandemic. With special reminiscences from some of the key players in Edmonton’s past, this book is a great introduction to the resilience and strength of our 2SLGBTQ+ community.

The launch event includes a panel of the team members who helped write this book, talking about their experiences with the project and with the spaces included in the text.
